Description:When moving to the cloud, the ‘Re’s often get mentioned. Re-home, Rebuild, Redesign, and Retire. Unfortunately, the most common scenario is the famous “Lift and Shift” (or Re-home) where resources are simply relocated as-is using migration tools like Azure Migrate or other 3rd party solutions. For some systems this is the only viable option, but it’s almost never the perfect option. In this session, we focus on Redesign and evaluate how to take a legacy system and refactor it for cloud native offerings from the ground up. We’ll start with the foundations: networking, landing zones, and
gasp DNS. We’ll work up from there discussing database, compute, containers, and security options. We’ll also talk a little bit about BC/DR and dispel some common misconceptions about how failover in Azure really works.
What you will learn: - What Azure Services are the functional equivalents of legacy systems
- When to choose one service over another
- How not to have issues with DNS
- How to recover from an outage or design a proper resilient system
